Mark Hurd, CEO of Oracle Corporation, has passed away earlier today at age 62.
The news of Hurd’s death was first emailed to Oracle employees and shared in an announcement by Larry Ellison on Hurd’s website.
In September, Hurd took a leave of absence saying he needs to spend time focusing on his health”.
Larry Ellison wrote “It is with a profound sense of sadness and loss that I tell everyone here at Oracle that Mark Hurd passed away early this morning. Mark was my close and irreplaceable friend, and trusted colleague. Oracle has lost a brilliant and beloved leader who personally touched the lives of so many of us during his decade at Oracle.”
Mark Hurd helped Oracle’s growth over the past decade and helped Oracle establish a stronger cloud presence. He will be remembered by many for his abilities to analyze, simplify, solve problems, his accomplishments, and for his kindness and sense of humor.
Larry Ellison continues “I know that many of us are inconsolable right now, but we are left with memories and a sense of gratitude…that we had the opportunity to get know Mark, the opportunity to work with him…and become his friend.”
